Homeostasis one of the important
concepts in our body, which shows how human body works, (Scott, 2014). From
Greek language homios means same and stasis means state, it explains that the
process inside the human body is in a state form. In the main part of
homeostasis is a delicate the balance in the system, if the balance is violated
the body will try to recover the problem, so that’s why every living organism
needs to adapt very well in external environment.    The
first scientist who understood the importance of homeostasis is Claude Bernard
in 1865. In eighteenth
century Bernard were interested how animals could live in such a harsh
conditions, for example cold weather when the temperature can get(s)? some
mammals living in this conditions, like arctic fox can keep the constant
temperature. Then Claude Bernard understood that maintaining the constant
temperature in the body can help to get used to and survive in internal
environment. As it was mentioned homeostasis is important function in
everybody’s organism, which helps to survive. However there is some
animals which body’s temperature drift, it depends on changing of the ambient
temperature. For example animals such as reptiles, amphibians and fish, these
animals surrounding in the cold environment and their body temperature is low
(Rothwell, 2000).  Homeostasis usually
controls blood pressure, body temperature, pH and glucose concentration. This
essay will describe the importance of homeostasis and how it works. Firstly
this essay will be about negative feedback loops, secondary is about
temperature and how it is changing in human body and finally will be about pH
in human body.

  One of the mechanism in
homeostasis id negative feedback loops. It expressed in a reaction, which act
opposite the stimulus that triggers them. One of the good examples is when the
concentration of carbon dioxide in the human body is increasing the signals
come to the lungs to increase activity and exhale more carbon dioxide. However
how does the negative feedback loop works? It starts when sensors, its nerve cells, will identify a
high temperature, then it goes to temperature control in the brain center.

After that in temperature control center will process information and activate
effectors, like sweat
glands and their job oppose stimulus and bringing the body temperature back to
normal. Of course body temperature does not always go high, it also can
drop below the normal temperature. In addition, homeostasis has two negative feedback mechanisms:
first one activates when level of body temperature increase, and then the
control center reduces it. Second on activates when level of body temperature
decrease and the control center increase it.

   Second of all, one of the good
examples of homeostasis is the control of body temperature in human body. Most of the enzymes, which are
biological catalysts (BBC, 2014), its sensitive to temperature change and when
temperature will change even for a few degrees, it will affect their reaction.

Usually this happens
because human body is warm- blooded and it also depends on their own heating.

In humans, normal body temperature is about 37, but different
factors can affect this value with body when human body gets too hot? In center
part of the brain located the hypothalamus, which manages temperature of the body, and levels of
hunger, thirst and sleep. When blood temperature fluctuates, hypothalamus
notifies organs through nervous system to fix it. When body gets hot the
sweat gland release more
sweat and sweat glands remove heat from the skin to cool the body off. Another
thing that happens is that skin capillaries become wider, allowing more blood
flow, therefore, removing heat from the skin. So when it heats up to
39-40the signals goes to
the hypothalamus and tells to muscles to slow down and fatigue sets in.

 

 

Thirdly human body needs to maintain optimum pH level. It is widely
acknowledged that if blood pH is too high or too enzymes become denatured.

Bounds such as ionic and hydrogen hold them in their 3D shape and broken, so
when active site of the enzymes is modified, it stops working as a catalyst. When pH level in human body gets
too low it calls acidosis and when it gets to high it calls alkalosis
(University of Maryland Medical Center, 2016). However both alkalosis and
acidosis can be dangerous for human. They can cause terrible diseases. For
example, New York Time Health Guide (2016), notes that alkalosis can cause
irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia. One of the problems that irregular heart
beating cause is that the heart beat intervals will be irregular.

However the chemicals such as
carbon dioxide and sodium bicarbonate levels in the blood can help regulate
heart beating and rate. If the pH level in human body will be high, then the
level of carbon dioxide will be low and level of sodium bicarbonate will be
high. What about acidosis, it can result
insufficiency of respirator. This problem often caused by availability of
conditions that can make worse breathing.

The acidity of the blood can increase because of the problems with
breathing. And at the end acidosis become so severe respiration fails
altogether.

   This essay showed how
homeostasis maintained in living organisms. Different organs of the body
collaborate to maintain stable state of the internal environment. It is
achieved by all organ systems working together. According to the researches
many diseases can affect the organ system and organs. However when it is lack
of homeostasis, it may result in death. Living organisms need to maintain
homeostasis constantly in order to grow correctly, work and survive. In general
homeostasis is essential for overall balance.
