individual needs of service users is key in making a good service. There are
different ways a practitioner could meet the individual’s needs. Firstly they
have to make sure they are confident and informed about the individuals health
needs they can do this by talking to the individual and their family but also
talking to other services, for example a care home practitioner should have
contact with the individuals doctor to know about the conditions the individual
might have and if they should be taking medication, or be on a specific diet,
as  one of the care needs should be
making sure the individual takes their medication at a specific time, in this
case the practitioners that work with the individual should be aware that they
need to take their medication and make sure they have it at the right time .
When the practitioner has assessed the needs of an individual they need to make
sure their practice is professional, by keeping their duty of care and

In
health and social care settings it is important that the practitioner supports
the wellbeing of the individual. There are a lot of different factors that go
under the term wellbeing, when looking at an individual’s wellbeing the
practitioner needs to look at their dignity and treating them with respect,
their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, making sure they are protected
from abuse and neglect, keeping the individual in control of their care, making
sure they are included and have access to work or school, their economic and
social wellbeing, domestic and  family
relationships, make sure their personal needs are met , the safety and fitting
of their living accommodation, and the involvement in society. Those factors
need to be taken into account by the practitioner for their practice to be
professional as the supporting of wellbeing is stated in the care act 2014 and
the practitioner should follow all the related legislations and policy’s whilst

wellbeing is important because if an individual’s mental wellbeing is negative

not in the right state of mind it will be harder for them to get better. For an
individual to get better they will need support with mental wellbeing as much
as other care. Mental illness can affect an individual’s life drastically even cutting
their life shorter. It is important to support all the factors of wellbeing of
an individual to make sure they get the best outcome from their care. If a
practitioner focuses on one thing and not the rest the individual will find it
harder to get better for example if a practitioner is taking care of an
individual’s emotional wellbeing but neglecting their duty to protect them from

and their emotional wellbeing will not get better. a practitioners role is to
up keep the wellbeing of an individual its important as it’s their goal of most
care and support plans if all factors of wellbeing are up kept the individual

in their community and have good relationship with family or/and friends. If an

Wellbeing
has a lot of factors to it, but its main concept is being happy, healthy,
feeling in control and having a sense of purpose which is what most individuals
aspire to. When a practitioner tries to assess the wellbeing of an individual
they need to look past the main focus of support and look at all the possible
factors that could be affecting the individual for example if an individual is
dealing with mental health issues all other factors should be taken into
account for instance housing situation, income, social status, and their
personal resources which could be their confidence, self-esteem and strength of
coping.

To
assess an individual wellbeing a practitioner should follow procedures set out
by their service, when assessing, all factor of wellbeing should be looked at. The
assessing could be done through a survey or questionnaire in which the individual
could rate all of the factors of wellbeing, from one being bad and 5 being good
to see the different things that could be having a negative impact on their
overall wellbeing for instance their happiness, their work or school life, how
safe they feel, their living and income situation, their involvement in their
society, how in control they feel, their outlook on life and their sense of
purpose. If the individual assessed doesn’t feel happy the other factors could
be looked at to see what the cause could be they might not be happy because
they’re not doing well in school, which could be because they are stressed and
aren’t coping with the amount of work in which case the practitioner could
support the individual in organising, and help them recognise different comping
strategies which would impact the whole wellbeing improving all of their
factors. This is a good way of assessing as the individual could take as long
as needed and not feel as much pressure as talking about their wellbeing this
assessment can be re done to see the development the individual is taking. This
will help the practitioner develop their practice by adapting the assessment
methods to the individual.

important that people’s view of their own wellbeing is balanced with indicators
relating to quality of life such as health, physical activity and social
interaction.” (Mental Health Foundation, 2015) this means that a practitioner uses
face to face assessment methods to talk to the individual about how they are
feeling about the different factors of wellbeing, because an individual could
think that their wellbeing is good when it’s not for example an individual
could be underweight but not realising it which could lead to bigger impact to
their wellbeing like their health and emotional wellbeing. The practitioner has
the role to inform the individual of their wellbeing rank and make sure they
agree and understand the different factor. When assessing the individual, the practitioner
should make sure the individual feels safe so they can be open and the
assessment is accurate the practitioner can do this by working in a person centred
way  getting to know the individual and
respecting them giving them control which will help to  make them feel safe and comfortable and
making the assessment more reliable if the individual doesn’t feel safe their
not as likely to say how they are really feeling leaving out the possibly most
important factor that could be having a negative impact on their overall
wellbeing. Talking to the individual is a good assessment method as the
practitioner will be able to see the individual’s expressions and body language
when talking about different factors. This will also help the practitioner
develop their communication methods improving their professional practice.

Reflective
practice is important in every practitioners practice, it is a way of
reflecting on your experiences to improve on the way you work and support
individuals.it helps the practitioner develop and learn while they are working.
Helping them maintain professional standards for instance up keeping the health
and dignity of service users whilst being professional and supportive. “The act
of reflection is a great way to increase confidence and become a more proactive
and qualified professional.” (Bright knowledge, 2018) meaning that a
practitioner learning from their mistakes or finding a better way of work and
constantly trying to improve their practice will help them become a positive
and confident practitioner allowing them to meet their professional standards
and make their service better. There are a number of different cycles the
practitioner can use to reflect on their work one of them being, Gibb’s
reflective cycle which is made up of six steps first there is the description
in which the practitioner can identify what the situation was and what happened
in it, then there is the feelings which allows the practitioner to think about
why they acted in the way they did, evaluation is next in which the
practitioner can look at the positives and negatives of the situation and
identify if they have not followed the professional standards the practitioner
then analysis the whole situation and tries to make sense of everything to come
up with a conclusion if they acted correctly in the situation and how they can
improve, and lastly they can come up with an action plan of what they can do to
improve their practice and change the way they work in to meet the standards,
and support the health and wellbeing of individuals.

 

Professional
standards aim to promote the health, wellbeing, safety and happiness of service
users, and all practitioners must work towards that following all the standards
and regulations, Reflective practice helps the practitioner to follow these as
it develops their personal and interpersonal skills and understanding, it help
them improve the day to day care and support they are providing making it more
person centred .reflective practice is the key to making sure a practitioner
meets the professional standards, it supports the practitioner in getting
better every day giving them more skills and allowing them to be able to deal
with different situations easily on a daily basis. All practitioners should be
aiming to get better. A good practice is the one that knows it’s not perfect
and is always trying to get better not only by asking service users for
reviews, but by being able to identify its own weaknesses and always working on
improving them. practitioners should use reflective practice to reward
themselves as overtime they can measure their process and improvement in their
practice, reflecting will allow the practitioner to make a difference in the
service, by just taking a step back and looking and the duties, responsibilities,
and professional standards of health and social care and seeing how they are
managing their knowledge and experience and putting it into their practice to
be able to further develop and gain more knowledge to be able to use it
effectively in their practice.

Professional
development is important in health and social care, it includes a number of things
for instance activities, training, and research. “Continuing Professional
Development exists to ensure that an individual enhances their skills and
abilities once they have formally qualified.” (CPD News Team, 2016) This
tells us that professional development allows the practitioner to develop new
skills and continue their professional practice by making sure their practice
is safe for them and the service users, it makes sure the care and support they
are providing is effective and legal by keeping up to date with the changes to
legislations, policies, and procedures, and by making sure they are working in
a person centred way keeping up the dignity of their service users. Practitioners
are required to continue professional development by the HCPC and keep a record
of it to keep and improve the quality of their practice. It is important that
all practitioners continue their professional development throughout their career
to provide the best care for service users and be able to meet their needs, professional
development makes sure that the practitioner is giving full quality care and
support to the service users at all times empowering and individualized care
which protects the service users identity and dignity. It lets the practitioner
work on their skills and make a positive difference in their service.

Professional
development supports the practitioner in meeting the needs of the service
users, it introduces new knowledge and experience and gives the practitioner
more skills and ways of practice helping them develop. It gives the practitioner
more ways on how to promote the safety and individuality of each service user
making the care based around them, it teaches the practitioner to promote
equality, and diversity in their health and social care service allowing them
to meet the needs of service users for example making it possible for an individual
in a care home to practice their religion. Professional development makes it
possible to meet the individual’s needs as it keeps the practitioner up to date
with all standards helping them to empower the service users by giving them
choice while still following all the legislation and policy’s and keeping their

service users’ needs by introducing new and better ways of promoting the individuals
health, safety, wellbeing and happiness and making sure their rights are
upheld. Continuing professional development makes practitioners more qualified

needs of service users. It will keep the service quality up and give the service
